Acting Dean of Student Sends Free Speech on Campus Email – WKUHerald.com

Acting Dean of Students Martha Sale emailed Friday, October 22, about free speech and advocacy on campus.

“As a public body, WKU cannot restrict the content of these protests, even when the message or visuals may be disturbing to some,” Sales said in the email.

Sales wrote that the different perspectives displayed on this campus are important in helping students navigate the complex issues and conflicting opinions of the world.

“Our positions are only advanced when we engage civilly so as to advance the discussion and respect everyone’s right to participate, even when those with opposing views do not show the same courtesy,” said declared Sales.

Sales encouraged students to advocate for issues that are important to them so that the conversion of views can move forward.

“I encourage all students at WKU to get involved in advocating for the issues that matter to you,” said Sales.

The sales encouraged students looking for additional information on student activism to visit the Dean of Students website, the WKU student rights page and the student manualFor a list of student organizations and how to get involved, click here.

If a student has additional questions, Sales said he should contact his office.
