Bank of America Shamrock Shuffle Reveals New Course, Urges Entries As Race Day Approaches – NBC Chicago

Thousands of runners will take to the streets of downtown Chicago this St. Patrick’s Day weekend as the Bank of America Shamrock Shuffle returns after a COVID-spurred hiatus.

As the race kicks off on March 20, the thousands of people who take part year after year will experience one notable difference: a new course.

The new course, which organizers unveiled on Sunday to celebrate a month before race day, will take participants along the Chicago River, offering impressive views of the annual St. Patrick’s Day festivities.

The trip will start and end in Grant Park as usual and allow participants to see many familiar sights.

But during Miles 1 and 2, runners will be guided along the river and past the newly constructed Bank of America Tower before heading east on Washington Boulevard.

The Shamrock Shuffle for decades kicked off Chicago’s running season, catapulting the city “from a season of hibernation to a season of movement” thanks to its 8K Run, according to its website. .

But if you prefer to walk or think a shorter distance is faster, there are options too.

“The Mile,” which is scheduled for March 19, will take runners of all skill levels, from local elites to the next generation of shufflers, on a course that weaves its way through Grant Park.

Race day won’t just focus on 8K racing.

Walkers are encouraged to head downtown on March 20 for the 2-mile walk. People will take part in a scenic route along the city lake, also starting and ending in Grant Park.

Those who can’t attend can participate in the excitement without even coming to Chicago. Virtual 8K will take place March 14-20, giving people the chance to join in the celebration by walking the streets of their own neighborhood.

As race day approaches, organizers offer incentives to encourage participation.

As part of a flash sale starting Monday, registration for the in-person 8K race will cost $40 until 11:59 p.m. that day. Those interested in signing up can also receive $10 off using coupon code “NBC” through March 8.
