Bank of Japan: TLS versions 1.0 and 1.1 will be disabled for encrypted communication on the Bank’s website

As of February 25, 2022, to strengthen network security, the Bank of Japan will disable versions 1.0 and 1.1 of Transport Layer Security (TLS) for encrypted communications on its website.* The Bank will continue to accept Internet connections from networks using TLS 1.2.
Users of browsers and / or devices that do not support TLS 1.2 will not be able to consult the Bank’s website.

The main browsers affected are as follows.

For PCs:

  • Internet Explorer 7 and lower

  • Firefox 23 and lower

  • Chrome 29 and lower

  • Safari 6 and lower

For smart phones:

  • Default browser for iOS 4 and lower

  • Default browser for Android 4.3 and lower

Users are urged to ensure that their browsers support TLS 1.2 and to take appropriate actions, such as upgrading browsers and / or enabling TLS 1.2 on their devices.
