Many Charlotte residents are expected to boil water after a major water pipe rupture caused an outage across much of the city. The cause is unknown at this time.

A Charlotte Water main line rupture Monday night that resulted in service disruptions in 16 postcodes and a boil order recommendation could have been a disaster for Charlotte restaurants. But as they prepared for the lunch rush of the day on Tuesday, few reported any problems. Other companies, however, were still struggling.

TO The Vintage Whiskey and Cigar Bar in South End, general manager Ben Torres said the team called a plumber on Monday when the water problems started.

“There was no drop in the line,” Torres said.

After learning it was a citywide problem the bar closed at 6 p.m.

Torres said it cost the company about $ 3,000 in sales, plus a visit from the commercial plumber to check the lines. The Vintage planned to reopen at noon on Tuesday with retail sales of cigars only until the water quality is deemed potable.

In the meantime, Torres said they would destroy any ice made overnight from contaminated water.

“We will outsource the ice if necessary, but the objective is to try to maintain normal operations even if it will incur additional costs,” Torres said.

Low water pressure notice

Charlotte Water said on Tuesday that customers who had experienced low or no water pressure should boil water before drinking, ice cream, brushing teeth or washing dishes.

The low water pressure warning will remain until Wednesday.

Summit Café in NoDa was among the businesses that remained closed on Tuesday. A note posted on the door read: “Closed 2 days due to a water advisory.” Via Instagram, staff said, “We are grateful to the good people of @cltwater for fixing the broken water line so quickly and hope to see you early tomorrow.

“We were very busy last night because of this”

Calle Sol Latin Café & Cevicheria at Plaza Midwood posted a review at the door Monday night that he was unable to provide dinner service. By Tuesday morning, everything was back to normal.

Nearby on Plaza Midwood at Moo & Brew, the restaurant actually experienced a commercial boom due to the water pipe rupture. “We were very busy last night because of this – because we actually had water,” bartender James Corwin said Tuesday morning.

Soul Gastrolounge closed Monday night but said via Instagram it planned to reopen at 8 p.m., noting that his service had been restored. Tuesday the doors opened at 5 p.m., as usual, but with plastic plates and utensils, bottled water and clean ice brought from elsewhere for a drink, another Instagram post said.

Elsewhere, staff answering the phone at Restaurant Gallery inside the Ballantyne hotel and 131 Main restaurant in Blakeney said he had no problems.

Near Charlotte Douglas International Airport, where restaurants closed on Monday evening, everything was fine at Caroline family restaurant and Mr. G’s.

But other businesses remain closed.

Topgolf University 9110 Drivers Way in North Charlotte is closed Tuesday, citing the water main rupture on its website. Topgolf is a 65,000 square foot multi-level indoor and outdoor entertainment venue that includes a restaurant and bar.
