Nagpur: The Nagpur University Directors’ Forum opposed the university’s decision to conduct an online admission process for the first year. Members of the forum’s bureau plan to hand over a representation to Vice-Chancellor Subhash Chaudhari this week to voice their concerns about the process.
According to them, not only colleges, but even students are suffering from the online process, which they described as “very complicated”. âEven though students were asked to pay Rs 20 for the online process, the actual expenses are over Rs 100 for downloading documents and other expenses. In addition, those in rural areas without access to online systems suffer the most, âforum officials said.
They added that although the majority of the students had cell phones, many of them did not have a bank account and as a result, they did not have online banking or ATM cards and had to depend on other people to pay the fees. âThe university charges Rs50 as an e-charge to all of its registered students. However, this fund has hardly been used for several years. This fund accumulated over the years is in crores. There is no point in charging students Rs20. In addition, many students use Internet cafes to upload their documents and have to spend unnecessary money in the process, âthey said.
Warning the NU administration of the collapse of the academic calendar, members of the forum asked for an extension of the registration deadline, which is August 18.
Many aspirants have also requested an extension of this deadline, saying they have not yet received grade sheets from their colleges. âIn the NU online form, there is a column for the score sheet number. Without completing it, the system will not accept your form. Either they should extend the deadline or remove the number column from the form notes sheet. They’ve already made the whole process very complicated, âthe students told TOI.
