Eagle Bookshop turns the page of 30 years of activity

This month, Eagle Bookshop is celebrating 30 years of independent bookstore in Bedford with events, showcases and prizes.

To kick off the month of celebrations, owner Peter Budek and his team gifted party bags to the first 100 customers on the first weekend in September – including a £ 5 book token accepted at all good bookstores (including Eagle Bookshop of course).

Poet-in-Residence Cameron Stuart hosted QWERTY Thirty !, creating personalized poems on his typewriter for lucky patrons, while Scrooge and other literary figures including Jane Eyre, Miss Havisham and Shakespeare’s Prospero made appearances. .

As always, shop windows are a thing of beauty, giving drivers and pedestrians alike along Rue Saint-Pierre something appealing to look at.

“Some of the displays in the store can make you smile, and some you can help us create,” said owner Peter Budek.

“We are looking for photos of friends and customers of the store taken in 1991 to form one of the displays. So please email them, message them, or drop them off in person if you have anything suitable. ”

Until 2019, the Eagle Bookshop was headquartered on Castle Road before moving to substantial new premises on St Peter’s Street. It stores over 100,000 books, from used £ 1 paperbacks to rare early editions. There really is something for everyone.

A 30-themed quiz, with first, second and third prizes of £ 90, £ 60 and £ 30 gift certificates to spend at The Eagle Bookshop runs until the end of the month.

Questionnaires are available at the store and the registration deadline is Thursday, September 30.

Congratulations to Peter and the team for the past 30 years and here are the next 30…
