The Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) recommends individuals to check whether an Aadhaar number presented to them is fake or genuine before accepting it as proof.
The UIDAI warned on Twitter that “not all 12-digit numbers are Aadhaar”.
Here are the steps to verify an Aadhaar number
Visit the official website of UIDAI: https://www.uidai.gov.in/
UIDAI for Aadhaar Services
Select “Verify an Aadhaar number” from the drop-down list of Aadhaar services under the “My Aadhaar” tab.
Select ‘Check an Aadhaar’

Fill in the Aadhaar number you want to verify with the captcha code.
Check Aadhaar on UIDAI website
Click on ‘Continue and verify Aadhaar’.
The UIDAI website will indicate “Aadhaar Verification Completed” confirming its validity. At the same time, the website will display personal information of cardholders, including age, state and hidden cell phone number. If the UIDAI indicates that the Aadhaar number does not exist, resulting in the impossibility of verification, you can visit an Aadhaar registration center for assistance.
