Hoosier track record another page in the incredible story of Tendin To Business

Fulfullnmydestiny’s first-year track record of 1:50, set Friday, dates back to Brett Boyd’s mare Lon Todd Hanover.

The progeny of Tendin To Business have benefited Brett Boyd and his family greatly over the years, and on Friday night (August 27) the line going back to mare Lon Todd Hanover once again delivered, this time a way that could have a bigger impact this fall. Boyd-raised fourth-generation Tellitlikeitis freshman Fulfullnmydestiny completed a spectacular mile at Harrah’s Hoosier Park in one of the program’s three Indiana Sires Stakes divisions. Led by trainer James Yoder, the gelding circled the oval in 1:50, gaining seven lengths while producing the fastest mile ever recorded by a freshman on the Anderson Oval .

“He’s just a special horse from the start. It was just something to see him come home last night. I was in awe, ”Boyd said on Saturday, still winning. “I got pretty emotional because of the win. He’s a monster, but what a beautiful horse too. We are just extremely blessed.

To appreciate the importance of victory, you have to dig into the pedigree of the first year. Boyd’s parents Roger & Karen bought Otaro Hanover’s mare Shiaway Elise at the end of 1987 and bred her the following season. Winning just over $ 90,000 on the racetrack, Shiaway Elise went on to produce five foals, including two mares. The second mare, the fourth of five foals, was Tendin To Business. As a racehorse, Tendin To Business reached the winner’s circle once at the age of 2, scoring 2: 05.1 at halftime. In the end, her biggest contribution came as a broodmare.

For over a decade, Tendin To Business has proven to be an incredible talent. Of his 10 foals, nine were winners, all but one scoring double-digit wins. Corporate Rrraider, a gelding son of Keystone Raider, is the most accomplished of the bunch, with $ 842,764 on his card and a score of 1:51. Bestinthebusiness, a 2008 colt, is the last active colt, currently racing at Tioga Downs and trained by Boyd’s son Braxten. Dividend Dar, a Keystone Raider mare who scored 43 wins in her career while cashing just over $ 250,000, continued the lineage for the family. His first of three foals was Driven By Destiny.

“Dividend Dar was a track record holder at Hazel Park and a really good top class horse so that’s definitely part of the pedigree, of the success,” Boyd said. “Actually, it’s kinda funny because she (Driven By Destiny) wasn’t one of the best. She had her times when she didn’t want to run a lot. I actually sent her to Minnesota when she was three with Gene Miller because she needed some gentler company. We sold it at the end of its three years.

The story may have ended there, but fate stepped in. Dividend Dar was lost after sustaining a broken leg. The mare had only produced one filly from her trio of foals, and Boyd’s wife, Brandy, made a suggestion to her husband.

“She said to me, ‘Maybe we need to get Destiny back because it’s the last of your father’s breeding line,'” he said.

The family bought Driven By Destiny and crossed it in 2016 with the Indiana stallion Time To Roll. The next colt, named Rolls Royce, was unable to participate in the races. The colt suffered an injury as a yearling which kept him off the track. After unsuccessfully breeding with Time To Roll in 2017, Boyd selected Tellitlikeitis for the 2018 breeding season.

“I study breeding quite a bit and the hypothetical mating with Tellitlikeitis went very well. Driven By Destiny was a calmer mare. We’ve had success with Tellitlikeitis before, ”Boyd noted. “We thought it would be good to breed a slightly calmer mare at Tellitlikeitis because they can be a bit spicy. The mare was calm and not very aggressive and thought she would adapt well.

Boyd breaks and prepares his babies before sending them off. Before shipping Fulfullnmydestiny to Yoder in Bell, Fla., The Michigan rider felt the young racer was different.

“He was just a flawless specimen from the start. She’s just a beautiful person. You can just say it from the start. He just had the look. He had the conformation, he was smart, “he explained.” We were excited about him, and when we broke him last fall he took it all in so easily. “

Boyd and his wife traveled to Florida on Valentine’s Day weekend to visit James and his wife, Cheyenne. He trained the gelding while he was there, and the freshman made a huge impression on the owner and breeder. So much so that he staked Fulfullnmydestiny at the elevation of Hoosier Park as well as at the crown of the breeders.

“I trained horses for a long time, and when I trained him this weekend I had goose bumps,” Boyd said. “Even in the photo last night, his feet are a foot off the ground. It was the same when I coached him in Florida. He has an incredible gait.

In five starts this season, Fulfullnmydestiny has recorded two wins and a pair of finalists. In the first round of the Indiana Sires Stakes, which took place on July 11, the gelding finished half a length behind Soaring Now in 1:51 with an odds of 31-1.

“They were getting ready to go behind the starting grid and we were the longest shot on the board. I say to my wife. “He’s a really, really, really nice colt and we’re the longest shot on the board,” he noted. “I thought deep down that maybe we were going to stop this colt and bring him back at the end of the year. It is an exhausting campaign.

After the race that night, Yoder called the owner. His message: let’s choose our spots with this horse. Since that race, Fulfullnmydestiny has recorded back-to-back wins in the Indiana Sires Stakes. In the second leg, Yoder guided the gelding to a 1: 51.1 triumph in the $ 69,500 division, clocking a: 26.1 in the final quarter to win by more than two lengths. On Friday night, the coach pulled him out of second to settle in fourth at the start of the $ 47,500 event. Rubbing his back, Fulfullnmydestiny took control before half-time (: 55.3) and pulled over six lengths off the turn (1:23) before reaching the wire in the mile record.

The weather eclipsed the Hoosier Park standard of 1: 50.3 for first year geldings set by Odds On Osiris in 2019. It was also faster than the 1: 50.2 foal mark set in Breeders. Crown from last year by Perfect Sting and Summa Cum Laude. According to USTA stats, only Caviart Camden has run a faster freshman mile this season.

“I remember his last win, sitting there watching the program and thinking, ‘Oh my God, we actually raised a foal that was beating in 51.1’. I was frozen, impressed that we had a colt that was going this fast, ”Boyd said. “Last night was so scary, but he totally did it on his own. We are very, very blessed and very grateful.

Boyd and Yoder chart a path for Fulfullnmydestiny where a trip to the Breeders Crown could become a reality. Last year, the team had their first glimpse of the Crown, held at Hoosier Park, with Katkin American. Unfortunately, a broken barrel bone suffered during the warm-up resulted in the five-year-old being belatedly eliminated from the $ 500,000 Open Trot.

“We never really bet at that kind of level, but James has proven he’s just one hell of a coach. He’s proven he can get them to the Breeders Crown. Sadly, the past year has been so heartbreaking. We finally got a horse at the Breeders Crown and then we have to scratch 45, 50 minutes before the race. But at least we got there, ”Boyd said.

“We got a little taste of the Breeders Crown and then when I coached the colt in February and spoke with James I know it’s a long time but we have to give it a shot. To be honest, it’s kind of on our radar. I know that’s a mouthful for two guys from Michigan and Indiana. I guess we’ll put our feet in the water with the Elevation. I’m sure there will be some top level foals out there, and we’ll see where the rest of the season goes.

Fulfullnmydestiny gives Boyd’s family and Yoder a chance to dream big. Roger Boyd passed away 18 years ago, but his legacy lives on. The latest success is on top of what Tendin To Business has started.

“My father, many years ago, he had a good genealogical line. Tendin to Business kind of started it all, ”he added. “She had a lot of good horses for our family. We have been blessed for almost 20 years now.
