NGC Certified Russian Coin Surpasses $ 500,000 In SINCONA November Sale


A Russian Coin led a group of 10 rarities certified by the Numismatic Guaranty Company (NGC) which each achieved prices over $ 100,000 in a pair of auctions held by the famous Swiss auction house SINCONA. Auction 71 and Auction 73 took place from November 21 to 23, 2021.

1808CNB OT Russia 1/4 Ruble classified NGC MS 61

A Russia 1808CNB OT Russia 1/4 Ruble grade NGC MS 61 (Auction 71, lot 162) made CHF 468,000 (approximately $ 504,000). The obverse of this incredibly rare coin, minted under Emperor Alexander I, shows the double-headed eagle, a symbol that has been used for centuries in Russian heraldry.

Another particularly rare coin in the auction was a 1921 China Gold Dollar rated NGC MS 63 (Auction 73, lot 1060). It greatly exceeded its starting price of CHF 30,000 to achieve CHF 348,000 (approximately $ 374,000). The obverse features President Hsu Shih-chang, the only civilian to reign during the days of China’s warlords in the 1910s and 1920s.

  • a Russia 1836CNB 6 Rubles classified NGC PF 64+ (Auction 71, lot 193) which made 120,000 CHF (approximately $ 129,000)
