Welspun teams up with DuPont on biobased collection

Welspun launches a sustainable bed and bath collection that incorporates DuPont’s Sorona polymer, which provides comfort, moisture management, luxurious drape and a soft, soft feel to the touch.

Sorona is made from 37% renewable plant ingredients, which offers a high performance and responsibly sourced material option. Fibers made with Sorona polymer are already used in clothing applications including athletic and athletic wear, insulation, swimwear, outerwear, suits, faux fur, etc.

Sorona’s benefits include smoothness, stretch, and recovery, along with inherent stain resistance without the need for topical treatments. Sorona is a USDA certified bio-based product certified to the Oeko-Tex 100 standard.

According to Umasankar Mahapatra, Senior Vice President of Innovation at Welspun India, Weslpun has seen a growing demand for performance textile fabrics that demonstrate durability in both fiber and fabric. He noted that DuPont has a long history of innovation.

“It is remarkable to see our teams develop this stretchy and high-performance Sorona Agile fabric without the need for elastane. It is able to withstand industrial washing conditions without any compromise on the properties of the fabric for the life of the fabric. Our teams are currently closely involved in incorporating other Sorona yarns into home textile applications, ”he added.

“Welspun India challenged us to come up with a fiber innovation that will allow them to deliver noticeable added value to their end customers while providing a sustainable solution. We were able to deliver Sorona fiber to the Welspun team in a format that allows its incorporation into a range of applications, including towels and linens, ”said Dr Gowri Nagarajan, Regional Director of Sales and Marketing, DuPont Biomaterials.
