What to Know About the Bank of America Shamrock Shuffle – NBC Chicago

Who’s ready to shamrock and roll into racing season with the Bank of America Shamrock Shuffle?

The event comprising an 8-mile run and 1- and 2-mile walks returns to Chicago in March after a two-year pandemic-induced hiatus.

Registration

The first event will begin on March 19 with a course through Grant Park called “The Mile”. Runners of all skill levels can enter for $25, and participants ages 8-12 have access to a $15 youth entry fee.

Registration for 8K starts at $55 and prices increase as the start date gets closer.

Admission for the 2-mile walk through Grant Park is $35. Additional 8K registration information is available here. To register for the 2 Mile Walk, click here. Both races will take place on March 20.

Runners can also use a special discount code through March 8 to get $10 off your registration. Use code “NBC” when registering to receive the discount.

Finish line loot

Although there may not be a pot of gold at the end of the 8k or 2 mile walk, participants who complete the races will receive a Nike shirt, knit hat, bib, a stopwatch, a post-race drink ticket and this year’s medal.

COVID-19 Policies

Those who have recently tested positive for COVID-19 within 10 days of racing and those showing symptoms of COVID-19 are urged to follow CDC guidelines on self-isolation and not attend events, in accordance with the shuffle’s health and safety policies.

The event’s website says attendees are encouraged to wear masks during the pre-race at Grant Park. Additional masks will be available for the post-race party.

Spectators are also encouraged to wear face masks.

More information on the event’s COVID-19 policies can be found here.

Training

Race organizers and the Nike Run Club have created an eight-week training challenge to help runners get the “best version” of themselves to the finish line.

In the challenge, runners can find suggested workouts that span all three targeted areas of training: speed, endurance, and recovery. Workouts include various exercises and suggested paces for each mileage, as well as a calendar for runners to track their progress.

The outline of the plan is designed so that runners can start training at any time – even now, with just over 20 days until 8K.

Transport

Millennium Garages are the closest parking options to Grant Park. Reduced parking rates will be offered closer to the event in March. Taking public transport is recommended.
